Web Desk: The latest report by the global charity Oxfam has revealed that the world’s 12 richest people have the same wealth as the combined wealth of more than 4 billion people.
The report states that the total wealth of billionaires has reached a record level in 2025 and the number of the first 12 billionaires in the world has exceeded 3,000.
According to the report, the top billionaires are Elon Musk, the head of Tesla and SpaceX, while other famous billionaires include Jeff Bezos, Bernard Arnault and Warren Buffett. The report further states that the total wealth of billionaires increased by 16.2% and reached $18.3 trillion.
Criticism of the global economy and policies
The Oxfam report also criticizes US President Donald Trump’s economic policies, including easing regulations, weakening global agreements on corporate taxes, and facilitating large investors, which have benefited the world’s richest people more.
The report warns that growing economic inequality is giving rise to dangerous political consequences, as political power is being gained through wealth, this gap between the rich and the poor is weakening political freedoms and undermining civil rights.
Amitabh Behar, Executive Director of Oxfam, says that the continuous increase in the wealth of billionaires in the current economic system is increasing social and economic inequality around the world. He said, “If this imbalance is not controlled at the global level, it can lead to social and political crises.”
The report urges world governments and international institutions to reform tax systems, ensure corporate transparency, and take measures that can reduce the gap between the rich and the poor, so that social stability and public trust can be maintained.
