ISLAMABAD: Renowned educationist and human rights activist Dr Arfa Syeda Zehra passed away on Monday due to protracted illness. She was 83 years old.
The news of her death was confirmed by her family.
Professor Dr Arfa Syeda Zehra, a distinguished scholar and educationist, dedicated her life to promoting learning, social harmony, and gender equality.
She served as the Special Adviser to the Prime Minister on Education and National Harmony Affairs and was also part of the caretaker cabinet in Punjab.
Dr Zehra’s academic journey was marked by excellence. She held the position of Professor Emeritus of History at Forman Christian (FC) College and earlier served as Principal of Lahore College for Women University.
Her Namaz-e-Jinaza will be held tomorrow.
As Chairperson of the National Commission on the Status of Women, she worked tirelessly for women’s rights and empowerment.
A respected voice in academia and society, Dr Zehra was widely admired for her deep knowledge of Urdu literature and her lifelong advocacy for human development, basic rights, and equality.

President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the demise of renowned educationist, intellectual and writer Dr. Arfa Syeda Zahra.
In his condolence statement, President Zardari said that the death of Dr. Arfa Syeda Zahra is an irreparable loss to the academic and literary circles of Pakistan. He said that the deceased set a shining example by dedicating her life to knowledge, research and service to humanity.
The President said that Dr. Arfa Syeda Zahra’s academic services and efforts for the promotion of the national language will always be remembered.
President Asif Ali Zardari expressed his heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the family, students and academic community of the deceased and prayed that Allah Almighty grant the deceased a place in the realm of mercy and grant patience to the bereaved family.
