Women dedicated metro buses in Lahore

The Punjab government has begun expanding travel facilities for women on the Lahore Metro Bus Service. The Punjab Transport and Mass Transit Department has added five dedicated buses for female passengers to the fleet, and they have now started operating on the Metro corridor.

The additional buses are intended to provide women with safer, more comfortable, and more dignified travel during peak hours, helping to reduce overcrowding and the risk of harassment.

Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan said that, on the instructions of the Chief Minister, five Speedo buses have been temporarily integrated into Metro Bus operations to ensure that dedicated transport facilities for women are made available without delay.

He added that once the procurement of additional Metro buses is completed, the temporary Speedo buses will be replaced with new Metro buses designated exclusively for women.

The minister said that providing women with a safe, secure, and dignified travel environment is one of the Punjab Chief Minister’s top priorities. He added that the initiative has been launched under this vision to improve convenience and safety for women during their daily commute.

The development is part of the Punjab government’s broader effort to ensure women’s safety at public places. Officials say the dedicated buses are expected to boost the commuting experience during busy hours by accommodating crowds in women’s sections while longer-term plans to expand the Metro Bus fleet are completed.
