PM Shehbaz Sharif launches PTV Digital, English News Channel

WEBDESK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially launched Pakistan Television Digital along with a new English-language news channel. The platform has been created to present Pakistan’s perspective and narrative more effectively on the global stage.

During the inauguration, the Prime Minister toured different departments of the new channel and spoke with young media professionals. He praised their energy and said their role would be vital in countering hostile narratives.

Sharif also gave the first interview to PTV Digital, stressing that the platform must serve as a reliable source of verified news and a strong defence against misinformation.

Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar briefed the Prime Minister on the channel’s goals. He said the platform will strengthen Pakistan’s voice internationally, support public diplomacy, and help reduce the information gap.

Tarar added that PTV Digital will showcase major news from Pakistan’s perspective, alongside coverage of international affairs, cultural insights, economic growth, and geopolitical analysis. Through partnerships with Reuters and the Associated Press, it will provide real-time, verified and high-quality news.

Officials said the new platform has also been designed to respond effectively to one-sided narratives from Indian and Western media, ensuring that Pakistan’s position is clearly represented globally.

The launch ceremony was attended by Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Information Secretary Ambreen Jan and other senior officials.
