ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar launched a strong criticism on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), saying the party’s recent statements often make headlines in Afghan and Indian media.
Addressing the National Assembly session on Wednesday regarding the 27th Constitutional Amendment, Tarar said PTI leaders talk about forgiveness, but he could hand them a long list of their wrongdoings. “They will never apologize because they are not political people,” he remarked.
The minister said PTI failed to learn any lesson during its four years in power and did not present a single constructive suggestion on the 27th Amendment. “If there were a real political opposition in the country, we could have achieved better legislation. Unfortunately, the current opposition is only focused on point-scoring,” he added.
Sharing a recent security update, Tarar said, “A tragedy a hundred times bigger than the APS incident was about to occur at Wana Cadet College, but our forces saved 500 students, averting a national disaster.”
He criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, claiming that while terrorists attacked the Wana Cadet College, the CM was busy playing cricket. “Their leader gave orders on May 9, and when Qasim Suri violated the Constitution, they remained silent. They disrespected the martyrs’ memorials, and now these same people lecture us on the Constitution and law,” he said.
Without naming PTI founder Imran Khan, Tarar said, “One man sowed the seeds of hatred in this country — a person who valued his ego more than the national interest, who violated the Constitution while sitting in Parliament. Will he ever apologize?”
He reminded the House that PTI members had actively supported General Pervez Musharraf’s referendum, yet today they oppose parliamentary amendments made through consensus.
“These people will never apologize because they are not true politicians,” he said. “Time never remains the same. When we sat on the opposition benches and warned them, they mocked us — now they are facing the same reality.”
The information minister said PTI’s rhetoric is often highlighted by hostile foreign media. He accused the party of promoting constitutional violations, hatred, and chaos instead of engaging in dialogue and cooperation. “Only political discourse and partnership can move the country forward,” Tarar stated, adding, “but PTI’s politics thrives on confrontation and division.”
