PTCL confirms internet slowdown across Pakistan

PTCL confirms internet slowdown across Pakistan

WEBDESK: Internet users across Pakistan faced slow speeds on Saturday after two major submarine cables developed faults near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) confirmed the disruption. It said the affected systems include the South East Asia–Middle East–Western Europe 4 (SMW-4) and the India–Middle East–Western Europe (IMEWE) cables.

According to a PTCL spokesperson, the faults have partly reduced bandwidth capacity. As a result, users are experiencing slower browsing, streaming, and downloading, especially during evening hours.

PTCL said its international partners are working to fix the issue on priority, while local teams are arranging alternate bandwidth to keep services running.

“We are grateful for our customers’ patience,” the PTCL Group spokesperson said. “Efforts are under way to minimise the impact of the cable fault, and we hope services will return to normal once repairs are completed.”

No timeline has been given for full restoration.
