The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that the technical fault in the international SEA-ME-WE 5 (SMW5) submarine cable has been successfully repaired, restoring internet services to normal across the country.
According to the PTA, the fault had caused reduced internet speeds and connectivity issues for many users yesterday. However, following the completion of repair work, internet traffic has returned to normal, and services are now being provided without interruption.
It is worth noting that numerous complaints of slow internet were reported from various cities across Pakistan yesterday.
According to internet monitoring platform Downdetector, users in several areas also reported connectivity problems, affecting routine online activities and digital services.
Earlier, the PTA had stated that the technical fault in the SEA-ME-WE 5 (SMW5) international submarine cable had temporarily impacted internet service quality, while the situation was being closely monitored.
The authority further said that the faulty repeater was part of its undersea cable system that forms a critical link in Pakistan’s global internet connectivity. The state-owned telecom operator manages three of the six submarine cable networks serving the country, while the remaining include two systems operated by Transworld Associates and the PEACE cable owned by Cyber Internet Services.
The PTA said that with the fault now fully resolved, uninterrupted internet services are once again available to users across Pakistan.
