Web Desk: Senior journalist and media analyst Imran Waseem associated with Azaad Digital is elected as president of the Supreme Court Press Association (SCPA) following the organization’s annual elections, held in the federal capital.
Wasim, who is currently associated with digital media platform Azaad Digital, secured the top post after contesting against Hasanat Malik, a well-known journalist from the Express Tribune.
Earlier, members of the Supreme Court Press Association cast their votes in the annual polls to select office-bearers for the upcoming term. The elections saw participation from veteran court correspondents and senior reporters covering judicial affairs.
According to the election results, Amanat Raza Gishkori was elected as general secretary of the association.
Meanwhile, Abrar Astori won the position of vice president, while Abid Nisar was elected secretary finance. Saharish Khan secured the role of information secretary.
In addition, Zahid Sharif, Rauf Bazmi and Sabeen Shehbaz were elected as members of the executive body.
Following the announcement of results, members expressed optimism that the newly elected leadership would work to protect press freedom, improve access for court reporters and address professional challenges faced by journalists covering the judiciary.
The Supreme Court Press Association represents journalists accredited to the country’s top court and plays a key role in advocating for their rights and working conditions.
