The Power Division stated that reliance on expensive fuel could increase electricity prices. Therefore, load shedding of 2 hours and 15 minutes will be carried out daily from 5 PM to 1 AM.
The Power Division further said that despite the increase in fuel prices, electricity has become cheaper by 71 paisa per unit. The purpose of load management is to prevent a possible increase of around Rs. 3 per unit in electricity prices.
It was also stated that even after limiting the use of furnace oil, consumers should be prepared for an increase of about Rs. 1.5 per unit. If timely measures had not been taken, electricity prices could have risen by Rs. 5 to 6 per unit.
The Power Division added that DISCOs have been instructed to share load shedding schedules with consumers.
The government will take all possible steps to provide relief to the public. Closing commercial markets on time at both federal and provincial levels can help reduce electricity demand.
By reducing demand, further increases in electricity prices can be controlled. It was also revealed that from July to February, electricity consumers were given relief worth Rs. 46 billion.
