Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has praised Syed Asim Munir for playing a “historic role” in preventing escalation between Iran and United States, as high-stakes talks begin in Islamabad.

Addressing the nation, the prime minister described the moment as “historic,” saying that by the grace of Allah, the region has shifted from the brink of war to a path of peace.

He emphasized that instead of conflict, dialogue is now taking center stage in Islamabad.

He noted that the two sides, which were recently on the verge of direct confrontation, have now agreed to resolve their differences through negotiations. The region, once facing the threat of devastation, is now witnessing a diplomatic breakthrough.

Officials from both sides also shared positive signals ahead of the talks. Iranian representatives reaffirmed their commitment to diplomacy and regional stability, stressing that dialogue remains the only viable path forward.

Meanwhile, US officials expressed cautious optimism, stating that meaningful engagement in Islamabad could open doors to long-term de-escalation and constructive cooperation between the two countries.

The prime minister expressed gratitude to the leadership of both Iran and the United States, stating that they accepted his proposal for a temporary ceasefire. He added that both sides also responded positively to Pakistan’s invitation to engage in direct talks in Islamabad.

He concluded by saying that Pakistan’s role as a mediator reflects its commitment to regional stability and global peace, with Islamabad now emerging as a key platform for resolving critical international disputes.
