The Pakistan High Commission (PHC) has rejected the request to renew the passport of Shahzad Akbar, the former adviser to the prime minister Imran Khan, the private media channel reported on Thursday.
According to the sources, Shahzad Akbar, who is in exile in London after the ouster of former Prime Minister Imran, visited the Pakistan High Commission on October 29 for the renewal of his passport after booking an appointment online.
However, when he went for a biometric at the PHC, the official denied to process his application by saying that his passport is currently blocked by the authorities in Islamabad.
According to the media report, the passport of Shahzad Akbar had been canceled and blocked by the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) since 2023. Nadra had blocked Akbar’s passport after the request of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). According to NAB, Shahzad Akbar was allegedly involved in the Al-Qadir Trust case. The former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi was also convicted in the same case.
There are a few other individuals who were involved in the same case. According to the private media channel, Farhat Shahzadi (Farah Gogi), Sayed Zulfiqar Bukhari (Zulfi Bukhari), and two others were involved, adding that NADRA had blocked their passports as well.
Barrister Shahzad Akbar left Pakistan in 2022, right after the ouster of Imran Khan from the government. His name was also on the Exit Control List (ECL), but he managed to leave the country.
