Web desk: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has forecast possible flooding in the province’s rivers from Wednesday, August 13, and issued instructions to follow precautionary measures.
According to a PDMA spokesperson, flood-like conditions are expected in the Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab, and Jhelum rivers, as well as adjoining streams and canals.
The seventh spell of monsoon rains will begin on August 13, which could cause a rise in water levels in Punjab’s rivers.
Director General PDMA Punjab, Irfan Ali Kathia, directed that all houses and livestock within riverbeds be evacuated without delay.
He said swimming in rivers, canals, streams, and ponds is strictly prohibited, and citizens should contact PDMA’s helpline 1129 in case of emergencies.
He instructed departments to complete all arrangements in advance in light of directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Kathia also told government departments to keep the public informed about the situation at all times and ensure the evacuation of all structures and livestock from riverbeds.
The DG PDMA urged the public to follow precautionary guidelines issued by the authorities, avoid swimming in rivers and canals, and cooperate with the administration in case of emergency evacuation.
The statement reiterated that citizens should call PDMA’s helpline 1129 in any emergency.
