The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that a four-team One-Day tournament will be held next month.
According to Geo News, the tournament will take place in August before the start of the domestic first-class season.
Director of the High Performance Centre, Aqib Javed, said there are around 18 months left until the 2027 World Cup, making it the right time to begin preparations. He said the tournament is being organized to build a pool of players ahead of the World Cup.
He added that the selectors and coaches jointly designed the four-team tournament, and all white-ball players will participate.
Aqib Javed said the selectors and coaches will pick each playing XI according to players’ roles. The tournament will help identify the best player pool for the future. All matches will be televised, allowing everyone’s performances to be evaluated and making player selection easier.
He further said Pakistan’s ODI team should be ranked among the world’s top four, adding that anything below that is unacceptable and expressing confidence that the team’s ranking will improve.
The tournament is expected to hunt emerging and talented players with a valuable opportunity to impress the selectors as Pakistan begins its preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The PCB hopes the competition will help boost the national team’s bench strength, improve squad depth, and identify players best suited for different roles in the white-ball format.
