Web Desk: Tensions flared along the Line of Control on Friday after reported ceasefire violations in the Naugam and Mandal sectors according to Pakistani security sources.

Officials said Indian troops initiated unprovoked mortar shelling in the Naugam sector of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Soon after they extended fire toward positions in the Mandal sector.

However the Pakistan Army responded with a befitting and immediate reply. Security sources claimed forces targeted several Indian posts including the Kumar Top post in the Mandal sector. Pakistan’s artillery silenced Indian guns within minutes.

Security sources reported possible casualties on the Indian side although no independent confirmation was immediately available. They also stated that Indian forces raised white flags after intense exchanges.

In addition officials said troops used 83 millimeter mortar shells to suppress Indian fire. They claimed that an Indian post suffered partial damage during the exchange in the Mandal sector near Neelam Valley.

Meanwhile officials accused India of repeatedly violating the ceasefire agreement along the Line of Control. They argued that such actions aim to divert attention from what they describe as a worsening security situation in Indian administered Kashmir.

Security officials warned that any future act of aggression would draw what they called a resolute and decisive response.

India has not yet issued an official statement regarding the reported exchange of fire. However previous incidents along the Line of Control have seen both sides accuse each other of initiating hostilities.

The Line of Control remains one of the most militarised borders in the world. Although both countries reaffirmed a ceasefire understanding in 2021 sporadic exchanges of fire continue to strain relations between the nuclear armed neighbors.
