ISTANBUL: Pakistan has rejected the Afghan Taliban’s proposal to relocate the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to a new location during the second round of truce talks being held in Türkiye.
According to diplomatic sources, the talks between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban continued for more than nine hours. Hosted by Türkiye, the discussions began in the afternoon and primarily focused on Pakistan’s single-point agenda of ending cross-border terrorism originating from Afghan soil.
Pakistan presented a comprehensive plan to curb terrorist activities, urging the Taliban regime to take decisive and concrete action against the TTP. Sources said the Afghan Taliban are currently reviewing Pakistan’s proposals.
The negotiations are expected to continue for three days, with senior Turkish officials facilitating further discussions on establishing an effective counterterrorism mechanism. The upcoming sessions will review Pakistan’s proposals to prevent militant attacks emanating from Afghanistan.
Earlier, on October 19, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and Afghan Defence Minister Mullah Yaqoob attended Doha talks, during which an initial ceasefire agreement was reached.
