New Delhi: After the ceasefire between Iran and the United States, a new round of talks is set to begin in Islamabad. Commenting on this, senior Indian journalist Dr. Rakesh Pathak said that Pakistan is playing a role in arranging ceasefires, and no one has even mentioned India—“no one is asking us.”
Speaking in a TV program, he questioned what India has gained from the Iran-US conflict. He said, “After Pakistan’s role in securing the ceasefire, where do we stand today?
India and the United States may end up paying for mistakes made in moments for centuries. Who could have imagined that a country like Pakistan, once considered economically weak, would act as a mediator in conflicts between such major global powers? Trump and the Iranian president might even publicly thank Pakistan’s leadership.”
He further said that Saudi Arabia’s patience also played a key role in making negotiations possible.
Dr. Pathak added that the biggest loss for India is the decline in its international standing. “We are the same country that helped stop the Korean War just six years after independence and even chaired the commission.
Later, we played roles in ceasefires in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. From that position, we have now reached a point where a smaller neighbouring country is mediating between the US and Iran.”
He criticized policymakers, saying that dismissive remarks about Pakistan have harmed India’s foreign policy. “These are mistakes whose consequences India is facing today.
The whole world was distressed by this conflict, but not even once was India’s name mentioned. Some countries made token statements, but no one seriously approached us to help resolve the conflict.”
