Islamabad: Pakistan and Iran agreed to expand cooperation across security, economic and humanitarian sectors during a high-level meeting in Tehran, according to official statement. The discussions took place between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Ali Akbar Ahmadian, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
Both sides underscored that regional stability hinges on sustained dialogue and improved coordination, particularly along the shared border where security challenges continue to evolve.

Expanded Security Dialogue

During the talks, Dar and Ahmadian reviewed mechanisms for enhanced intelligence sharing and stronger joint efforts against terrorism and smuggling networks. Officials noted that more efficient communication channels could help prevent misunderstandings and manage emerging threats more effectively.
They also stressed that closer engagement between Islamabad and Tehran could contribute to wider peace efforts in the region.

Economic and Trade Cooperation

Trade and economic ties featured prominently in the meeting. The two delegations assessed ongoing projects and discussed new avenues for collaboration in energy, transport and cross-border trade.
According to officials, both sides agreed that improved regional connectivity could stimulate local economies and support border communities that rely on cross-country markets.

Humanitarian and Crisis Response

Humanitarian cooperation also formed part of the agenda. Dar and Ahmadian highlighted the need for coordinated disaster response, noting that joint efforts during natural emergencies could significantly reduce human and economic losses.

Commitment to Continued Engagement

Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining a constructive and peaceful relationship with Iran, emphasizing that regular talks remain essential for addressing shared challenges. Ahmadian welcomed Pakistan’s outreach and said Iran was prepared to deepen cooperation across priority sectors.
The meeting concluded with a pledge to sustain momentum in future engagements and translate commitments into practical action steps.

A Step Toward Deeper Bilateral Ties

The talks marked another step toward strengthening diplomatic, security and economic links between the neighboring countries as Pakistan and Iran signal readiness to broaden long-term collaboration.
