Earlier, the Pakistani youth crossed the Line of Control (LoC), which separates Azad Kashmir and Indian-administered Kashmir, in pursuit of a relationship that began on social media. He was subsequently arrested.
According to Indian media, at around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Indian soldiers stationed in the Salikot area of the Uri sector noticed a young man crossing the Line of Control and detained him as soon as he entered Indian-administered Kashmir.
The report stated that during questioning, the youth identified himself as Zeeshan Ahmad Mir, son of Lal Din Mir, a resident of Paan Kadi, Muzaffarabad. His identity was also confirmed through a Pakistani national identity card found in his possession.
The reason he gave for crossing the Uri sector—one of the world’s most sensitive and heavily guarded border regions—surprised investigators.
Zeeshan told Indian investigators that he had taken the risky step to meet his beloved, Iram Bano, who lives in Uri.
According to Zeeshan’s statement, the two first met through social media and remained in contact. It was this online friendship that eventually led him to decide to cross the border.
Indian authorities said that both Zeeshan and Iram Bano are currently being questioned by various security agencies to verify the claims made by the young man.
According to Indian media, agencies are examining the mobile phones and digital communications of both individuals to better understand the nature of their interactions.
