Web Desk: Pakistan has played a key role in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran that contributed to a ceasefire understanding, the Foreign Office said on Thursday, adding that Islamabad continues to support diplomatic efforts aimed at regional stability.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said during a weekly briefing that Pakistan remains committed to peace in the region and has been actively engaged in mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran, which have received international recognition.

Andrabi said Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach, including high-level contacts led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, helped create channels of communication between the parties.

He added that Islamabad maintained continuous engagement with global leaders through telephone diplomacy ahead of recent discussions, while senior leadership worked to keep dialogue channels open during periods of heightened tension.

The spokesperson said international stakeholders had acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive role in de-escalating tensions, particularly during recent diplomatic engagements involving the prime minister and foreign leadership.

He noted that the prime minister, currently on a multi-country visit, has received calls from several world leaders, reflecting what he described as recognition of Pakistan’s peace efforts.

Andrabi also said that preparations for a possible second round of talks between the United States and Iran were underway, although no date has been finalised. He added that Pakistan would continue to facilitate diplomatic engagement where possible.

The spokesperson said Pakistan also remains engaged in broader regional diplomacy, including participation in multilateral forums and coordination with countries such as Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Egypt on security-related discussions held in Islamabad.

He added that Pakistan has maintained confidentiality in its facilitation role due to the sensitivity of the process, while ensuring consistent communication with both domestic and international media.

Separately, Andrabi condemned Israeli military actions in Lebanon, describing them as unacceptable.

He also reiterated Pakistan’s concerns over developments in Indian-administered Kashmir, rejecting recent delimitation-related reports and calling such measures illegal in a disputed territory.

He said demographic or administrative changes in the region could not alter its internationally recognised disputed status, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s position in support of the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.

The spokesperson added that Pakistan continues to call for a transparent international investigation into past incidents, including the 2007 Samjhauta Express attack, and urged the global community to take notice of what he described as delayed justice for victims.
