ISTANBUL: Pakistan has agreed to resume talks with the Afghan Taliban at the request of the hosts, according to sources.
Officials familiar with the development said the Pakistani delegation, which was earlier scheduled to return home, will now extend its stay in Istanbul to continue the dialogue process.
Sources added that the decision to revive the talks was made to give peace another opportunity through diplomatic engagement.
The negotiations will once again center on Pakistan’s core demand that Afghanistan take clear, verifiable, and effective action against terrorist groups operating from its soil.
Pakistan has also reiterated that Afghan territory must not be used for terrorist activities against Pakistan, the sources confirmed.
Earlier, a day ago, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had warned Afghan Taliban, saying, “test our capabilities at your own peril.”
