WEBDESK: Rescue and relief operations by the Pakistan Army are continuing at speed in flood-affected areas of South Punjab.
Water levels in the Sutlej River have risen sharply at Ganda Singh Wala. In Sahiwal, 49 villages have been affected by flooding from the Ravi River. The army and civil administration have set up 30 relief camps in the district.
In Khanewal, the Rango Bund near Head Sidhnai was damaged by very high flood levels but has now been repaired.
Army rescue teams are active in Tulamba, Mian Channu, and Abdul Hakim. Thousands of people and livestock have been moved to safer places. Relief and medical camps have also been established in the affected areas.
In Muzaffargarh, rescue operations are under way in Behrampur, Rangpur, Jowan Bangla, Muradabad, Doaba, Ashiq Chowk, and other areas. Officials say operations are ongoing and more people are being shifted from low-lying villages.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab on Friday issued a new alert, predicting heavy rain and thunderstorms in several districts of Punjab from September 6 to 9.
According to PDMA, the heavy monsoon rain are forcasted in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, and Gujranwala.
PDMA also predicted rain in Lahore, Gujrat, Sialkot, and several other cities during the same period.
Between September 7 and 9, there is a risk of flash flooding in Dera Ghazi Khan, PDMA spokesperson stated.
The authorities directed commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to remain on high alert and take necessary precautionary measures.
