WEBDESK: Immediately after the glacier lake burst in the village of Roshan, Tali Das in Gilgit-Baltistan, the Pakistan Army has started a rescue operation in Gopis tehsil.
According to reports, the glacier outburst triggered severe flooding, posing serious threats to the local population. The flow of river water was blocked, cutting off nearby communities. Land erosion has made the situation worse, while damaged routes have limited access to affected people who are waiting for rescue.
The Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts Quick Reaction Force has been sent to the area to shift residents to safer places.
Meanwhile, the civil administration and Rescue 1122 have mobilised all resources. The Frontier Corps Northern Areas has also completed preparations for the mission, which will include helicopter operations to evacuate people trapped in remote locations.
Residents have appealed to the authorities for urgent action to save lives.
The Pakistan Army has also launched a relief mission in Tero, a remote village in Phander tehsil of Gilgit-Baltistan, at the directions of Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
According to details shared on Sunday, a field hospital has been set up in the area where a specialist medical team has arrived.
The team includes a paediatrician, gynaecologist, medical specialist and a general duty officer, who are providing much-needed healthcare to the residents.
