Security offical on Operation Ghazab lil Haq

A senior Pakistani security official addressed media representatives on 2 February, providing an in-depth update on Operation Ghazab lil Haq, regional security concerns, Iran, and countrywide protests.

Regarding Operation Ghazab lil Haq, the official stated that Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities must choose between cooperating with Pakistan or allowing terrorist groups to operate from their territory. He emphasized that operations will continue until verifiable assurances are given that facilitation of groups such as Fitna al Khawarij and Fitan al Hindustan is halted. The duration of the operation, he said, depends on ground realities and the response of the Afghan regime.

The official alleged that the Afghan Taliban regime is harbouring multiple terrorist groups and benefiting from a war-driven economy under ideological cover. He clarified that Pakistan’s actions are targeted specifically at terrorist sanctuaries and infrastructure used to facilitate attacks. More than 180 posts have reportedly been destroyed and over 30 tactical positions captured, according to the statement.

He rejected claims of propaganda, stating that Pakistan remains transparent about operational progress through official channels. He also stressed that Pakistan has no intention of regime change in Afghanistan and respects the Afghan people, while firmly targeting elements involved in cross-border terrorism.

On internal security, the official noted that the Pakistan Army’s involvement is linked to governance gaps and incomplete implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP). He urged political parties and institutions to strengthen coordination and improve governance to address security challenges effectively.

In his remarks on Iran and regional affairs, the official said Pakistan is pursuing a balanced and principled foreign policy. He mentioned that Iran, along with other regional partners including China and Russia, has appreciated Pakistan’s position on recent developments. Pakistan expressed concern over escalating tensions in the region but reiterated its desire for a stable and peaceful Iran.

The official dismissed speculation that Pakistan could become a target of regional escalation, calling such perceptions unfounded. He emphasized that Pakistan maintains strong diplomatic relations globally, including long-standing strategic ties with Saudi Arabia, and remains fully capable of defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Regarding the proposed International Stabilization Force (ISF), he said details are still being finalized and any decision on Pakistan’s participation will be taken by the government after careful review.

On countrywide protests, the official stated that peaceful demonstrations are a constitutional right, but violence and chaos under the guise of protest will not be tolerated. Authorities warned that any attempt to disturb law and order will be dealt with strictly under the law.
Officials concluded by reaffirming that Pakistan’s armed forces, with public support, remain committed to protecting national security and safeguarding the country against all threats.
