Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, said the National Finance Commission (NFC) will not be revised without the approval of the provinces.
Speaking on the private media channel, Tarar stated that the discussion on the 28th Constitutional Amendment has not started yet, adding that no draft is ready. He also said clearly that all the political parties will be asked before the approval of the new amendment.
The information minister said that the 18th Amendment will remain in place. He mentioned that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s (MQM-P) demand for local government was under consideration by the federal government.
He clarified that it is not possible to borrow money and spend it on defence. He mentioned that the debate on whether the largest province should get extra budget is also under consideration.
He added that if funds keep being allocated only based on population, the population will continue to grow. He said the government will consult the provinces on the NFC Award, education, and local government matters.

Senior Journalist Benazir Shah was targeted with a deepfake video shared by an X account, followed by Information Minister Attaullah Tarar. Benazir Shah condemned the move on X, stressing that such threats would not stop her voice.
Federal Minister Attaullah Tarar quickly reacted and said the act was “totally unacceptable and highly condemnable.” Atta Tarar promised strict action, made it clear that no one has the right to threaten or defame journalists, adding that he will never support this type of behaviour of any individual.
Atta Tarar wrote on X, “Totally unacceptable and highly condemnable, ma’am. Notice taken, please. Nobody has the right to make fake videos and then disseminate them or try to harass any journalist by defaming them. I follow more than 1900 accounts. I do not condone the behaviour of this account, and also assure you that action will be taken.”
