Web Desk: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert of possible severe cold wave in Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir.
According to the NDMA, severe cold weather is expected in the coming days at night and morning hours until the end of January, while moderate to heavy snowfall is likely in the upper areas, which may affect connectivity roads, transport and power supply.
According to the NDMA, possible snowfall in the mountainous areas will increase the risk of avalanches and landslides, cold and dry weather in the plains and hailstorm in some places, which may damage crops and gardens.
On the other hand, the Meteorological Department has predicted a new series of rain and snowfall in different parts of the country during the next few days, due to which the intensity of cold is likely to increase further.
According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will remain cold in the federal capital Islamabad, while the weather is expected to be partly cloudy.
Rain has been predicted in the upper areas of Chitral, Malam Jabba, Swat, Dir, Kalam and Battagram, while thundershowers are expected in Abbottabad, Kohistan, Malakand and Mansehra.
The weather is also expected to become colder in various areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, where rain with snowfall is expected in Skardu, Hunza, Nagar, Ghizer, Astore, Diamer, Shigar and Ganche.
According to the Meteorological Department, rain and snowfall may continue intermittently in the upper areas of the country from January 16 to January 23. Rain and snowfall are also likely in Azad Kashmir from today to January 19, while severe weather is expected to continue in Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch and Rawalakot.
The Meteorological Department says that the intensity of rain and snowfall may increase from January 20, while from January 21, most parts of the country may be engulfed by a powerful weather system, which is likely to cause further cold and weather effects.
