Modi govt criticised for concealing deaths in Uttarkashi tragedy

WEBDESK: The Uttarkashi disaster proved once again ineptness of the Indian BJP-led Modi administration. It has also shown that there was poor planning and cover up of military defeats.

Whether it is natural disaster or it is security lapse, each crisis in India demonstrates the lack of action of the Modi government. The Uttarkashi disaster becomes the most recent case of broken promises and poor ruling.

Indian magazine Mint reports that heavy rains in Uttarkashi lead to flash floods and landslide causing several Indian soldiers and more than 50 civilians to go missing. In Dharali village, torrential rains destroyed homes, roads and entire settlements. Indian military installations were also damaged.

Experts say climate change and unplanned development are making disasters like Uttarkashi worse. Authorities fear the death toll will rise once debris is cleared. Bad weather has already forced the Indian Air Force to delay helicopter rescue flights.

Five days have passed, yet there is no trace of the missing soldiers. This disaster is a clear sign of poor infrastructure and government mal-administration.Even after the deaths of its own soldiers, the Modi government is busy hiding political failures and polishing its false image.

Meanwhile, India’s pro government media is helping cover up military losses. Hiding soldier deaths during a natural disaster shows the Modi regime’s unprofessional mindset. Whether in military operations or natural calamities, the government’s refusal to acknowledge its soldiers’ sacrifices is an insult to them.
