Pakistani actress Benita David recently shared her experiences of living in Pakistan as a Christian during a podcast interview. She stated that minorities in Pakistan not only have religious freedom but are also treated with respect and provided equal opportunities.
According to her, the Christian community in Pakistan celebrates its religious festivals such as Christmas and Easter with great enthusiasm, and also actively participates in Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha celebrations. She added that “we celebrate four festivals and take part in all cultural and religious events.”
Benita David emphasized that Pakistan has safeguarded the rights of minorities and that she has been able to live freely according to her beliefs. She also mentioned that she has had access to respect, protection, and employment opportunities in the country.
The actress also criticized a common trend in media, saying that Christian personalities are often asked unnecessary and uncomfortable questions about their religion during TV shows, which is inappropriate. She added that her husband also dislikes this behavior.
The podcast host also spoke against this trend, stating that repeatedly questioning artists about their religious beliefs is not appropriate. As an example, he mentioned that Sunita Marshall and other artists have also faced such awkward situations in interviews.
In addition, Benita David brought to the limelight the importance of mutual respect and interfaith harmony in society. She said that people from different religious backgrounds in Pakistan often live together peacefully, support one another during celebrations, and contribute positively to the country’s cultural diversity.
