WEBDESK: Director General of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, on Thursday has strongly reacted to the events of 9 May. He said those involved must not only face the law but also apologise to the nation.
According to him, what happened on 9 May 2023 was not just against the Pakistan Army but a planned conspiracy against the State of Pakistan. He said certain elements attacked military installations and tried to damage national security, which cannot be tolerated.
No mention of PTI, its founder during Brussels event, DG ISPR rejects Sohail Warraich’s claims
Director General ISPR Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry spoke to journalists and rejected claims made in a recent article by senior journalist Sohail Warraich. He clarified that the Brussels event mentioned was only a photo session where hundreds of people took pictures with the Army Chief. He said the Army Chief gave no interview, and there was no mention of PTI or any apology.
The DG ISPR said the article was only a personal attempt by the journalist for self promotion. He expressed regret that a senior journalist had acted irresponsibly.
Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that all those found guilty in the 9 May incidents will be punished under the law. He added that it does not matter which party or group they belong to. He said forgiveness will only be possible for those who admit the truth and openly apologise to the nation.
The DG ISPR said India believed that with its terrorist proxies and facilitators, it could discredit the Pakistan Army through an attack. However, Pakistan responded strongly, and as a result, India and its proxies were discredited instead.
He said some believed India, with its huge military machine, could easily defeat Pakistan. Others suggested India should attack alongside its proxies, including local militant groups. But Pakistan successfully countered its enemies on both fronts.
He recalled that in 2014, all political parties agreed to eliminate the “illegal spectrum” that fuels terrorism, but full implementation has still not been achieved. He said illegal Afghan residents involved in crimes should be sent back, but some political and criminal actors oppose this.
He stressed that complete implementation of the National Action Plan’s 14 points was essential. He said gaps in governance are being filled daily by the sacrifices of the Army, police, and law enforcement agencies.
