ISLAMABAD: A citizen under the influence of drugs assaulted a traffic police officer in Islamabad’s Sector I-8 and threatened to kill him. He has since been arrested.
The incident came to light after a video of the altercation went viral on social media, prompting police action and the suspect’s arrest.
The viral video shows traffic officers stopping the car after noticing the driver’s suspicious behavior. Upon being stopped, the man became aggressive, stepped out of his vehicle, and began pushing and slapping the officers. The footage also captured him hurling verbal abuse and issuing threats.
According to police officials, the incident occurred late Friday night. The suspect was reportedly intoxicated and driving recklessly. When officers asked for his documents as part of a routine check, he started misbehaving.
An Islamabad Police spokesperson confirmed the arrest, saying, “The man involved in the attack on the traffic police officer in I-8 has been identified and taken into custody. The law is equal for everyone, and no one is allowed to assault a police officer.”
A case has been registered against the suspect, including charges of assaulting a police officer, obstructing official duties, and issuing death threats. The police have also impounded the suspect’s vehicle and sent his blood samples for testing to verify drug or alcohol use.
Islamabad’s Chief City Police Officer (CCPO) took serious notice of the incident, stating that misconduct or violence against police personnel will not be tolerated. He added, “Traffic wardens are there to serve the public, and attacking them is an attack on the state’s authority.”
