The federal government has decided to give a major relief to the public on the third day of Eid by significantly reducing petrol and diesel prices. On the orders of the Prime Minister, petrol price has been reduced by Rs22 per litre and diesel price has also been reduced by Rs22 per litre.
The Prime Minister said that he had promised the nation that as soon as economic space is created, relief would be provided to the public, and today that promise has been fulfilled in letter and spirit. He reiterated that “providing relief to the public is among my top priorities.” It is worth noting that the federal government had also reduced petrol and diesel prices last week.
According to the official statement, despite severe economic conditions, the government has continued its relief efforts for the public. In particular, subsidies have been provided on fuel for the middle class using public transport, goods transport, motorcycles, and rickshaws.
Sources further said that while long queues for fuel were seen in other countries of the region, in Pakistan the public received uninterrupted fuel supply due to timely and effective measures by the Prime Minister. Moreover, despite a global oil crisis and record price increases in the international market, the government instead of passing the burden onto the public provided historic relief of over Rs130 in subsidies and kept prices under control.
