Web Desk: Security forces killed five terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in the northwestern district of Lakki Marwat, officials said on Sunday, as authorities intensified efforts to dismantle militant networks in the region.

According to security officials, troops carried out the operation after receiving intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the area. The raid aimed to neutralise suspected fitna al khawarij members and disrupt their operational network.

During the operation, forces targeted a terrorist hideout and engaged in a heavy exchange of fire. As a result, five terrorist were killed at the site, officials said.

Authorities said the individuals were involved in several terrorist activities in the area and were believed to be operating with external backing.

Meanwhile, security personnel recovered a significant cache of weapons and ammunition from the terrorists’ possession. Officials said the group had been preparing to carry out attacks against security forces and other targets in the region.

Security sources added that the operation dealt a setback to militant activity in the district, which lies in Pakistan’s northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Furthermore, authorities said clearance operations are continuing in surrounding areas to track down other suspected terrorists.

The ongoing campaign forms part of “Azm-e-Istehkam,” a nationwide counterterrorism initiative approved under Pakistan’s National Action Plan. The drive seeks to eliminate terrorist networks operating with foreign support and restore long-term stability.

Officials emphasised that Pakistan’s security forces and law-enforcement agencies will continue operations to dismantle terrorist infrastructure and prevent attacks across the country.
