KP budget allocates Rs351.1 million for official entertainment

KP BUDGET

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has allocated Rs351.1 million under the head of entertainment expenses for government offices in the provincial budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, according to official budget documents.

The allocation is meant to cover official hospitality, receptions, meetings, and other entertainment-related expenses incurred by various provincial departments and offices. The amount is distributed across different government institutions as part of their annual operating budgets.

The allocation has sparked grave concerns as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continues to struggle with longstanding challenges in critical public sectors. Many government schools face shortages of teachers, classrooms and basic facilities, while several public hospitals struggle with limited resources, shortages of medicines and inadequate medical staff. At the same time, residents in many districts continue to complain about poor road networks, damaged infrastructure and inadequate civic services.

Opposition parties and economists suggest that, given the province’s financial constraints and pressing public needs, a greater share of public funds should be directed toward improving education, healthcare and infrastructure rather than administrative entertainment expenses.

Besides this, public concerns have been raised over persistent unemployment and limited economic opportunities, particularly for young people, as well as the need for greater support for farmers through improved irrigation, access to markets and climate resilience measures.

Moreover, financial experts point to importance of investing in flood protection and disaster preparedness, especially in vulnerable districts. At the local level, residents continue to complain about inadequate municipal services, including poor waste management, insufficient street lighting and the lack of proper maintenance of public spaces, arguing that these areas require greater government attention.
