Pakistan Suffer Heavy Defeat to England in First Test of Series
Bangladesh has made significant progress in the ICC Test team rankings after drawing their Test series against Australia, moving ahead of Pakistan.
After drawing the two-match Test series against Australia 1-1, Bangladesh climbed three places to secure the sixth position, the highest in their history.
In the current ICC Test rankings, Australia are first, South Africa second and New Zealand third. India are fourth, England fifth, Bangladesh sixth, Sri Lanka seventh and Pakistan eighth.
Bangladesh made a memorable start to their series against Australia, defeating the hosts by nine wickets in the first Test to secure their first Test victory on Australian soil.
However, Australia made a strong comeback in the second Test, defeating Bangladesh by an innings and 51 runs, after which the series between the two teams was level at 1-1.
Meanwhile, Pakistan suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of hosts England in the first match of the three-Test series, following which the national team slipped further in the rankings.
The recent ICC rankings also manifests Bangladesh’s continued struggle in Test cricket, while Pakistan’s recent results have put the team under pressure to revive its lost position.
Pakistan will now be required to exhibit strong performances in the remaining Tests against England to its regain momentum in the format.
