Peshawar: The Khyber Union of Journalists (KUJ) on Thursday strongly condemned recent remarks by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, saying that dragging the sacrifices of martyrs into political controversies was deeply regrettable and against national unity.

Calls statement “irresponsible” and divisive

The union said questioning the sanctity of martyrs’ blood and places of worship was “deeply unfortunate” and warned that such comments could fuel hatred and provoke resentment against state institutions. The KUJ called on the chief minister to immediately withdraw his “irresponsible words” and emphasized that political leaders must not use politics to undermine the country’s security institutions.

Highlights sacrifices in war on terror

Reaffirming its stance, the KUJ stated that the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s security forces in the fight against terrorism remain unforgettable. Furthermore, it added that honoring martyrs and their sacrifices is a collective national duty.

Urges unity over division

The journalists’ body stressed that political leaders should issue statements that unite rather than divide the nation. “National security and public solidarity are our foremost priorities,” the KUJ declared, calling on all stakeholders to uphold respect for those who laid down their lives for peace and stability.

Controversial Remarks

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Khan Afridi ignited a heated controversy after alleging that security forces once “tied dogs inside mosques,” describing it as an act of grave disrespect. He said that when locals protested the incident, officials insulted them instead of listening, yet the people continued to show patience and unity, believing that both the army and the country belong to them.

Afridi criticized what he called “secretive orders” that, according to him, have repeatedly caused pain and humiliation to citizens. He warned that, in the long run, those who ignore the people’s suffering must eventually understand the lasting impact of such actions; according to him, they “continue even today.”

Political fallout expected

The remarks have consequently sparked a storm of reactions from political and civil circles, as several observers now warn that the chief minister’s comments could further strain relations between the provincial government and security institutions.Analysts expect further statements and possible clarification from Afridi as pressure mounts over his choice of words.
