Web Desk: Security forces in Bajaur successfully thwarted a suicide vehicle attack on their checkpoint in the Malangi area, but the assault left a young girl martyred, two children and a woman among dozens of civilians injured, officials said. Three soldiers were also martyred while fighting the attackers, and six others sustained injuries.
According to authorities, the extremists attempted to detonate an explosives-laden vehicle at the security post. Security personnel engaged the militants bravely, preventing a larger catastrophe. Officials confirmed that 12 attackers were killed in the operation.
Local officials and community leaders condemned the attack, describing the assailants as enemies of peace who deliberately target women and children. “This is not Islam or jihad. Attacking innocent civilians is the act of extremists,” a senior security official said.
Authorities emphasized that such attacks aim to destabilize Bajaur and spread terror among its law-abiding residents. They reiterated that under Pakistan’s National Action Plan, perpetrators of terrorism will be systematically tracked down and eliminated.
Security forces have heightened vigilance across the district and are continuing operations to ensure the safety of civilians. Officials said that protecting residents and restoring normalcy in the area remain top priorities.
Residents expressed grief over the attack but praised the efforts of security forces in preventing further loss of life.
