Karachi’s University Road will stay closed to traffic from November 10 to December 30 as Karachi Water Sewerage System Improvement Project (KWSSIP) started a new project, the private media channel reported on Sunday.

According to the issued statement, the road closure is required to install water pipelines under the K-4 supply scheme from NIPA Chowrangi to Federal Urdu University.

KWSSIP officials confirmed that in the initial phase of the expansion plan, work will cover NIPA Chowrangi to Federal Urdu University, and in the second phase, work will extend from Hasan Square to NIPA Chowrangi.

During the project’s development work, 96-inch and 72-inch water lines will be installed, with a deadline set for December 30.

To reduce traffic congestion, authorities said they will divert vehicles from NIPA Chowrangi toward Aladin Park as an alternate route.

Officials urged commuters to plan their travel in advance and cooperate during the ongoing development work. The project is part of the larger K-4 water supply initiative designed to enhance Karachi’s water distribution system.

Meanwhile, commuters on University Road continue to suffer due to damaged and deteriorating roads, as the multibillion-rupee BRT project remains incomplete even after three years of construction.
