Karachi mob torches seven trucks after siblings killed in dumper crash

Web desk: Two siblings lost their lives, and their father was seriously injured in a dumper crash that struck their motorcycle in Karachi’s Federal B Area late on Saturday night.

Police said the motorcycle was carrying the father along with his 22-year-old daughter, Mahnoor and 14-year-old son, Ahmed Raza, when the crash occurred.

All three were injured, but the siblings could not survive.

The accident triggered chaos in the neighbourhood. Enraged residents first assaulted the truck driver, leaving him injured, before police took him into custody.

The crowd then moved towards Sohrab Goth’s Gulshan Chowrangi area, setting fire to at least seven dumper trucks. Stones were also pelted during the unrest.

Fire brigade teams were dispatched to the scene to control the blaze, while police cordoned off the area.

Traffic on Rashid Minhas Road was brought to a halt, with vehicles diverted from Sohrab Goth flyover towards Shahrah-e-Pakistan Water Pump until the burnt trucks could be removed.

Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori expressed deep grief over the tragic deaths and prayed for the father’s swift recovery.

He urged residents not to take the law into their own hands and called on the provincial government to ensure strict punishment for the driver found guilty.

“The Sindh government should rein in the dumper mafia that is endangering people’s lives,” the governor stressed, urging immediate action to prevent such incidents in the future.

Police confirmed that investigations are underway and legal proceedings will be initiated against those responsible.
