Jeffrey Vandersay shines despite Sri Lanka’s losses

Experienced Sri Lankan leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay has continued to make his presence felt during his recent ODI series against Pakistan, showing glimpses of his best even as his team faced challenges.

In the series’ decider at Rawalpindi, Vandersay claimed 3 wickets for 42 runs across his full quota of 10 overs. His victims included top Pakistani batsmen Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, and Salman Agha. Despite his efforts, Sri Lanka was restricted to 211, leaving Pakistan with a comfortable chase.

Earlier this year, Vandersay had also drawn attention during Sri Lanka’s Test series against Australia. He bowled a marathon 38-over spell, taking three key wickets including Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith, and showcased his batting skills with a brisk 53 off 47 balls, marking his first Test half-century.

His impact isn’t limited to Test cricket. In an ODI against India last year, Vandersay turned the game on its head with a six-wicket haul, helping Sri Lanka secure a rare series victory in a bilateral contest.

At 35, Vandersay continues to thrive as a senior figure in the team often stepping in when others are unavailable but still capable of producing decisive performances. His experience, accuracy, and attacking mindset make him a vital option in Sri Lanka’s bowling arsenal.

As the team experiments and rebuilds, Vandersay’s recent form strengthens his case for inclusion across formats, proving that he remains a player who can influence matches at crucial moments.
