Islamabad: Pakistan uttered a strong commitment to raising its bilateral trade with Kyrgyzstan to $200 million within the next two years, as both countries signed a series of significant agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at developing cooperation across numerous sectors.
During the ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s House in the MoUs between Pakistan a Kyrgyzstan were signed. The ceremony was attended by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. In the ceremony, Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan declared Bishkek and Islamabad as twin cities. Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan exchanged MoUs on cooperation in mining, geosciences, tourism, energy, diplomacy, culture, and the exchange of convicted prisoners.
On this occasion, the foreign ministers of both countries signed a key MoU between the Pakistan Foreign Services Academy and the Kyrgyz Diplomatic Academy, while the Ministries of Law and Justice of both nations formalized another cooperation agreement.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif cordially welcomed the Kyrgyz President, saying that Pakistan severely values its brother relationship with Kyrgyzstan. He said that President Japarov’s visit taking place after 20 years is crucial for elevating two-sided ties to new statures.
The Prime Minister said that the two leaders held comprehensive talks on cooperation in trade, connectivity, energy, other mutual concerns. He said that 15 agreements and MoUs signed during the ceremony represent a major step. On this occasion, Kyrgyz President Japarov acknowledged the leadership of Pakistan for the warm welcome and hospitality, saying that Pakistan is a reliable and trusted friend. He said the agreement signed would meaningfully reinforce the bilateral cooperation.
He highlighted the significance of the CASA-1000 energy project, calling it vital for regional energy needs.
He noted that nearly 12000 Pakistani students are studying in Kyrgyzstan, reflecting the strong link between the two countries.
