KARACHI: With the recent slip in gold prices, many Pakistani investors are asking whether it’s still worth investing in the yellow metal however, the political and economic uncertainty that defined much of 2025 has kept it in demand.
Gold hit a record high of Rs 456,900 per tola on 17 October, reflecting both global gains and a weak rupee. By 20 October, the rate eased to Rs 444,900 per tola, before falling further to Rs 416,362 per tola by 28 October, a drop of about Rs 40,000 per tola within 10 days. Since then, prices have recovered slightly to hover around Rs 420,000 to Rs 425,000 per tola in early November.
Globally, the yellow metal peaked at $4,381 per ounce on 20 October, then dropped 11.3 per cent to $3,886 by 28 October. It later steadied near $4,000, still showing a gain of over 50 per cent in 2025.
Analysts say gold’s fundamentals remain strong. For Pakistan, where inflation remains high and the rupee continues to lose value, gold is seen as a hedge against economic instability.
Traders in Karachi and Lahore say that demand for physical gold, especially jewellery and coins, has risen again after the recent correction. Many buyers view this pullback as a buying opportunity rather than a warning sign.
While short-term prices may fluctuate, experts advise keeping a long-term perspective. In Pakistan, gold remains more than an investment, for the general public it is a symbol of security and stability in uncertain times.
