Web Desk: Iran said it has opened the Strait of Hormuz to all commercial vessel traffic for the duration of the current ceasefire in Lebanon, signaling a temporary easing of tensions in one of the world’s most critical oil shipping lanes.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump praised the move, describing it as a positive step toward maintaining stability in global shipping and energy markets.

The announcement, issued by the Ports and Maritime Organisation of Iran, stated that vessels can transit the strait along previously coordinated routes without restriction during the ceasefire period. The move follows a pause in hostilities linked to the Lebanon situation and appears aimed at stabilizing regional maritime activity.

The Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman, handles a significant share of global energy shipments. Therefore, any disruption or reopening of the waterway carries immediate implications for international oil markets and shipping security.

In recent months, heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East had raised concerns over the safety of maritime traffic in the strait. However, Iranian authorities said the current arrangement ensures safe and orderly passage for commercial vessels, provided they adhere to the designated routes already communicated by maritime officials.

Meanwhile, shipping operators and global markets are expected to closely monitor developments, as the reopening remains tied to the duration of the ceasefire. Any escalation in the region could quickly alter the situation.

Although Iran did not specify how long the ceasefire would last, Trump also issued a statement expressing broader diplomatic appreciation, saying: “Thank you to Pakistan and its great Prime Minister and Field Marshal, two fantastic people
