Indian Officials Abroad Emerging as Global Security Threats

WASHINGTON: Following a series of incidents involving state-sponsored activities, Indian-linked individuals have increasingly become a serious security concern not only for Pakistan but also for the international community. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration, the misuse of classified intelligence has emerged as a new challenge to global security.

According to a report by the international news agency Reuters, U.S. authorities have arrested Indian-origin policy expert Ashley Tellis for possessing classified American defense documents. The U.S. Department of Justice stated that Tellis has been charged with the unlawful retention of national defense information.

The FBI recovered more than a thousand “Top Secret” and “Secret” documents from Tellis’s residence. Court proceedings revealed that Tellis had removed classified materials from offices of the Department of Defense and the State Department and transferred them to his home.

Due to his previous associations with the Pentagon and State Department, Tellis held a “Top Secret” security clearance, Reuters reported. He also served as a member of the U.S. National Security Council during the presidency of George W. Bush.

Observers have urged the international community, including the United States, to take immediate notice of India’s increasingly dangerous actions under Modi’s leadership. India’s state-backed misconduct has now become a symbol of global distrust and a significant threat to international peace and security.
