Web Desk: Claims that Imran Khan has died in custody have swept social media and Indian media outlets but authorities in Pakistan and multiple fact-checks say the reports are baseless and part of a pattern of misinformation, being spread by Indian and Afghan Propaganda Accounts
India and Afghanistan Propaganda Accounts
Several Social Media accounts clearly linked with Indian and Afghan Propaganda are propagating that Imran Khan has died so as to spread chaos and unrest among PTI Supporters.
No Confirmation, Fact-Checkers Call It Fake
However, no credible Pakistani news agency, government department or international media outlet has verified the claim. A previous alleged “press release” purportedly from the country’s foreign ministry claiming Khan had died was later debunked by Pakistani Officials.
Several fact-check organisations described the latest videos and alleged documents as recycled or manipulated. For instance, one of the videos used to support the claim dates to 2013 and shows Khan injured after a separate, unrelated accident not recent jail violence.
Past Patterns of Misinformation
Observers note this is not the first time rumours about Khan’s death have circulated. Earlier this year and in previous months, similar false reports sparked confusion and protests before being disproven.
Authorities Urge Public to Resist Unverified Claims
Officials have reiterated that these stories are part of what they call a disinformation campaign. They emphasize that no credible confirmation exists and urge the public and media to refrain from spreading unverified content and to rely on verified, official sources.
