Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar criticized the PTI over imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s medical issue, saying that Khan’s health is being politicized and that the PTI is spreading false propaganda. He said the government’s position from the beginning has been that health matters should not be politicized.
Atta Tarar said the government’s clear position is that health matters should not be politicized. He said the government implemented the court’s decision regarding medical treatment and had maintained the same position from the outset.
He said the government had never adopted a disrespectful attitude toward anyone’s health and that Imran Khan’s medical issue should not be turned into a political dispute.
All grounds for review petition presented
The federal information minister said the government had filed a review petition in the Supreme Court and presented all legal and relevant grounds before the nation. He said the government fulfilled all necessary requirements under the court’s order and also had Imran Khan medically examined.
Shifa Hospital doctors were also present
Atta Tarar said doctors from Shifa International Hospital were also present during Imran Khan’s medical examination, while his sister was also there. A team of doctors, including an ophthalmologist, cardiologist and physician, conducted a detailed medical examination of Imran Khan and declared him medically fit.
Facilities for all prisoners
Atta Tarar said the government had also raised the question in its review petition of whether such medical facilities should be available to all prisoners.
He said the government’s objective was not to deprive anyone of medical care but to examine uniform principles and policies regarding medical facilities for prisoners.
Court order implemented
The federal information minister said all requirements under the court’s order were fulfilled. Imran Khan was taken to hospital for a medical examination, and his sister was also present with him.
He said all arrangements had been made to transfer Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital. However, due to the security situation, he was taken to PIMS Hospital, where his medical examination was completed before he was transferred back to Adiala Jail.
Keep health matters separate from politics
Atta Tarar said Imran Khan’s health is a humanitarian and medical matter and should not be used for political interests. He reiterated that the government’s position from the beginning has been that health matters should not be politicized and that medical facilities would continue to be provided to Imran Khan whenever required.
