Web Desk: Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has uncovered a major money laundering network allegedly involving popular actor Hamza Ali Abbasi, his sister Dr. Fazeela Abbasi, and their mother, former Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Nasim Chaudhry.

Investigators obtained critical documents revealing that the trio utilized multiple joint bank accounts to transfer millions of dollars and UAE dirhams out of the country illegally. According to the case files, the family moved more than $1.3 million to foreign destinations without notifying the Federal Board of Revenue (Revenue), effectively bypassing national tax regulations.

The probe intensified after authorities discovered that Dr. Fazeela Abbasi, a well-known dermatologist, only declared three bank accounts in her official tax returns. However, the FIA found serious discrepancies in those filings. While the suspect attempted to justify the transfer of $200,000 by providing receipts, officials rejected the evidence because the documents were registered under the names of her driver and various friends rather than her own.

Furthermore, the investigation linked several business entities to the transactions. Subsequent checks of tax records confirmed that these companies bore no legal connection to Dr. Abbasi’s declared income or professional activities.

Federal authorities stated that the accused failed to provide any legitimate documentary evidence or a plausible money trail for the vast sums moved abroad. Consequently, the FIA has accelerated legal proceedings, citing the failure to disclose these assets in tax returns as a primary reason for rejecting the family’s current legal stance.

As the inquiry broadens, officials are looking into whether additional associates helped facilitate the transfers. The agency expects to summon the family members for further questioning as they consolidate the evidence for prosecution.
