hiking trails in Islamabad

All hiking trails in Islamabad have been shut for two days due to a warning about heavy rainfall in the capital.

The decision was taken amid a prolonged spell of heavy rain across Pakistan which resulted in a lot of destruction.

The safety of the public was also taken into consideration.

The coming days are going to be crucial for Islamabadis, as they are likely to be hit by heavy rainfall which may affect Islamabad and other cities in Punjab.

The NDMA has warned that rising water levels in rivers could worsen the situation. The Indus River may see flows of up to 500,000 cusecs at Taunsa, Guddu, and Kalabagh. Rising water is also expected in the Ravi and Chenab rivers.

Citizens have been advised to stay cautious, avoid unnecessary travel to northern areas, and contact local authorities in case of emergencies.

The NDMA said rescue and relief operations are being closely monitored, and all concerned departments are on alert.

The damage in KP due to flooding caused by rain has destroyed many lives. At least 393 people dead, 190 injured, and 1,618 houses damaged.

This year, nearly 750 people have died since the season started.

The most severely affected district was Swat, where 79 roads sustained damage at 80 different points. In total, 43 kilometres of roads were washed away in Swat alone.
