Sydney: Josh Hazlewood, Australian fast bowler faces another setback ahead of key Ashes tests. He has reported Achilles soreness during the early stages of his recent hamstring injury recovery.

Hazlewood was supposed to link up with the test squad in Brisbane. He was supposed to continue his rehabilitation, but those plans have been paused.

On Sunday, Hazlewood began light bowling, after he had missed the series opener. He suffered the hamstring strain while playing for the New South Wales.

However, this a mild problem as confirmed by Cricket Australia. The pacer will be able to resume bowling and running next week.

Hazlewood was already not going to participate in the second test in Adelaide. However, this delay leaves him in a tight race to be ready for Sydney and Melbourne matches.

It has become a growing concern that Hazlewood often gets injured and his problems often resurface whenever he starts to return to full workload.

The fast bowler has battled repeated side strains, Achilles issues and calf troubles across multiple seasons. He also picked up a side strain during the 2022-23 home summer, and missed three games.

After that when he returned his Achilles’ soreness kept him out of India tour. He was also not completely fit for the final of World Test Championship.

This is an important issue for Australian cricket team since the highly anticipated Ashes is being played. Australia’s bowling stock has already been stretched as Sean Abbot and Pat Cummins are also experiencing injuries.
