WEBDESK: The Punjab government has launched the Green E-Taxi Scheme 2025 to help unemployed youth earn a living and reduce pollution.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif introduced the scheme, which will provide both electric and hybrid taxis on easy, interest-free instalments. Officials said the initiative aims to create jobs while also promoting an eco-friendly transport system in the province.
In the first phase, 1,100 electric taxis will be distributed. Out of these, 30 vehicles have been reserved for women drivers.
Green E-Taxi Scheme: Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be between 21 and 45 years old and hold a valid CNIC, a Punjab domicile and a driving licence. Only low-income applicants will be considered, while those with high incomes or criminal records will not qualify.
Green E-Taxi Scheme: How to apply?
The registration process is online. Applicants must create an account on the official portal, verify their details, select the vehicle type, and upload the required documents. After approval, bank formalities will be completed and a delivery schedule issued.
The government has not yet released exact figures for payments but has assured affordable down payments and easy monthly instalments. Successful applicants will gain full ownership of the vehicle once payments are completed.
Electric taxis are best suited for city use due to zero emissions and low running costs. Hybrid taxis, on the other hand, are more practical for longer routes and intercity travel as they do not require regular charging.
