Web desk: Sardar Zahoor Iqbal, host of the Field Marshal’s function in Brussels, has responded to Sohail Warraich’s column and provided clarification.
In his video statement, he said that a lot of disinformation is being spread based on the column, claiming that he had a two-hour meeting with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, which is completely false.
“No such meeting took place, and I did not even have a five-minute conversation with any journalist,” he said.
He explained that the column was written based on the Field Marshal’s speech, and turning it into an article suggesting a private discussion was “entirely irresponsible.”
He added that the Quranic verse mentioned in the column actually referred to India. In reality, there were at least twenty people at the dining table, and no interview or private dialogue took place that could support claims of a long conversation. “This has no connection with the truth,” he said.
Sardar Zahoor further stated that while the column claims he had a two-hour discussion with the Field Marshal, the truth is that the Field Marshal did not speak individually with anyone for more than five minutes.
He clarified that the Quranic verse mentioned in the column was in the context of India, with the Field Marshal noting that India was acting as a “devilish force” at that time.
Moreover, with more than twenty people present at the table, there was no individual interview or extended conversation with anyone.
Sardar Zahoor Iqbal has denied claims circulating based on Sohail Warraich’s column that he had a two-hour meeting with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. He described these reports as completely false.
DG ISPR denies Sohail Warraich’s claims
In another instance, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), also clarified that the Army Chief has not given an interview to any journalist.
He said the column by Sohail Warraich was based on a Brussels event, where hundreds of people took photographs. “There was neither any mention of PTI nor any discussion of an apology,” he added.
DG ISPR described the column as an attempt by a journalist to gain ‘personal publicity’ and benefits, calling it an inappropriate act.
He expressed regret that even a senior journalist showed such irresponsibility. “Anyone who commits an illegal act will have to face the law,” he warned.
