Gujarat faces flood

Torrential rains dumped 577mm on Gujarat, causing stormwater drains to overflow and water to spread across low areas.

Villages were submerged, crops were ruined, and city roads stayed waterlogged.

Gujarat faces flood and Emergency Response

Rainwater entered the District Jail and Sessions Court, leading to inmate transfers to Lahore and Gujranwala jails for safety.

All schools, colleges, and institutes are closed today, and authorities urged avoiding unnecessary travel.

Whereas, rescue teams with boats and trucks are responding, with power cuts in some areas to prevent electrical hazards in the Gujrat division.

Relief Efforts and Agricultural Losses

Heavy machinery and dewatering pumps from Gujranwala are clearing choked drains to speed water flow.

Health units set up mobile camps for first aid and clean water. On the other hand, farmers reported losses in rice, fodder, and vegetable fields, with damage assessments planned after waters recede.

Additionally, traders in main markets faced losses as shops and warehouses flooded overnight.

Gujarat faces flood and River Flood Outlook

In Jalalpur Jattan, a two-story vacant building collapsed due to weakened foundations, but no one was inside.

In addition, near Medina Syedan, a protective embankment is being built to divert water into storm drains, with more machinery from Gujranwala aiding efforts.

Whilst, a second major flood wave in the Chenab River heads toward Head Trimmu, with authorities monitoring gauges and embankments.

People in katcha areas were told to move valuables and livestock to higher ground, keep phones charged, carry CNIC and medicines, and follow Rescue 1122 guidance.

The focus is on rapid drainage, protecting lives, and reopening schools and markets when conditions improve.
